Delegates from the Tooro Sub-region have called on Dr. Kizza Besigye, one of the founding members of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), to establish a new political party. This endorsement comes as Besigye consults FDC members on the party’s future and emphasizes the need for a united effort to challenge the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) government.
During his consultation tour across seven districts in the Tooro Sub-region, Dr. Besigye addressed FDC members and supporters, urging them to consider the formation of a new party that could effectively mobilize collective efforts to combat what he described as a corrupt government.
“We need a new platform that can unite all opposition forces and bring together Ugandans who are determined to see a change in leadership,” Besigye said. “The current government has failed to address the needs and aspirations of the people, and it is our duty to organize and overthrow this regime.”
The call for a new party has been met with enthusiasm by many FDC members in the Tooro Sub-region, who believe that a fresh political entity could revitalize the opposition’s efforts and attract broader support from various segments of society.
Dr. Besigye’s proposal includes creating alliances with other opposition parties and civil society organizations to form a formidable coalition capable of challenging the NRM’s dominance in the political arena. He stressed the importance of unity and collaboration in achieving this goal.
“The fight against corruption and dictatorship requires all of us to come together,” Besigye added. “We must put aside our differences and work towards a common objective: a free and democratic Uganda.”
The endorsement from Tooro delegates signifies a growing momentum for change within the FDC and the broader opposition landscape. As consultations continue, many are eagerly awaiting the next steps in forming a new political party that can effectively challenge the status quo.
