Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, has disclosed that the government provided him with a generator valued at UGX 500 million following a security issue at his residence. This revelation has sparked a mix of reactions from the public and political circles.
In a recent interview, Tayebwa explained that the security concerns at his home necessitated the installation of a reliable power source to ensure safety and continuous surveillance.
“The government gave me a 500 million shillings generator after there was a security issue at my home,” Tayebwa said. “This was done to ensure that there are no power interruptions, which could compromise security measures in place.”
The Deputy Speaker emphasized that the generator is crucial for maintaining the security of his residence and ensuring the well-being of his family.
However, the announcement has raised questions and stirred debate among Ugandans, with some expressing concerns over the use of public funds for personal security enhancements. Critics argue that the money could have been used to address broader security issues affecting the general populace.
Tayebwa’s supporters, on the other hand, contend that as a high-ranking government official, his security is of paramount importance and that the provision of such resources is justified.
As discussions continue, the government has yet to issue an official statement regarding the allocation of the generator and the circumstances surrounding the security threat at Tayebwa’s home.
